The two lakes in Kehl which are designated as swimming areas are the Badesee in Goldscheuer and the man-made Baggersee Kieswerk Vogel in Kork. Their water quality is therefore regularly tested by a laboratory on the instructions of the public health authorities.
The popular lake by the Badhiesl building in Goldscheuer has the added bonus of play areas and toilet facilities.

Beautiful bathing lakes can also be found in our neighbouring towns and villages, such as the Waldsee forest lake in Willstätt-Hesselhurst or the Badesee bathing lake in Rheinau-Honau.

The indoor and outdoor swimming pools in the town are still permanently closed.

The Auenheim outdoor pool is heated (24° C). It has a sports pool and a non-swimmer pool. There is also a paddling pool (28°C) available for younger guests. The pool also offers: play area for small children, Big Lego play garden, beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, inexpensive catering and rental lockers.

The outdoor pool in Kehl-Auenheim is located about 5km north of the town centre. The information about opening times and facilities is only available in German.

The water playground is an inviting place for young and old to play by the water well into the autumn. It is particularly refreshing in the summer heat. The water playground in Kehl between the Rhine and the Old Rhine is a very popular attraction for children.

A strip of water leads over to the Old Rhine, emulating the original natural course of the Rhine before it was straightened. Features guaranteed to delight the children include water fountains, little pools and various gadgets. Adults sit cooling their feet in the water or wade in up to their calves, treading water along Kneipp principles. The Wasserspielplatz water playground is surrounded by slides, climbing frames and sandpits. There is something for every age group to enjoy.

For teenagers and the young at heart, there is a skate park near the water playground. Outdoor fitness equipment is available at the foot of the silver fir tower.

Our Tip

While the children are playing, the parents can relax on the spacious lawns or enjoy some refreshments at the adjacent beer garden.

The Kneipp water-treading basin for the arms and the maze for young and old are ideal on hot summer days. Both facilities are just a stone’s throw away from the Wasserspielplatz water playground on the Rhine flood plain.

The R(h)einlabyrinth maze (Rosa Carbonell Labyrinth) has a diameter of 17 metres while the water-treading basin measures 3x10 metres. The water is about 12 degrees. There are also two smaller pools for cooling the arms.
The facility is a gift from the Bürgerstiftung Kehl Kehl Community Foundation to the citizens of the town and to everyone who visits Kehl.

There are no shipping companies offering one-day boat trips on the Rhine in Kehl and Strasbourg. The nearest places to take a boat trip on the Rhine are Karlsruhe or Breisach:

Kehl is a regular stop for cruise liners, however. The well-known shipping company Viking River Cruises operates two landing stages by the Garten der Zwei Ufer Two Shores Garden. There are two more landing stages on the street called Weststraße in the docks (e.g. A-ROSA).

Many cruise passengers also arrive at the Rheinseitenkanal or Grand Canal d’Alsace waterway along the Rhine in Strasbourg. The cruise company CroisiEurope has its headquarters in Strasbourg.
